Ace Windows and Victorian Sliders

Since placing their first order in 2010, Ace Windows, who are specialists in the installation of high-quality windows and doors, have built a long-standing relationship with Victorian Sliders®.

We recently spoke with Steven Harrigan, Partner at Ace Windows, to learn more about what has driven the success of this relationship over the past 16 years.

A Relationship Built on Collaboration

Having established themselves as a trusted installer of the ECOSlide® system across Central Scotland, Ace Windows’ relationship with Victorian Sliders® has been cemented in collaboration, product development and a shared commitment to delivering the best possible outcome for property owners.

Speaking on the relationship, Steven commented:

“We’ve had a longstanding relationship with Victorian Sliders®... they are a company that listens to what our needs are, and what the customers’ needs are, it’s not a one-way conversation.”

Rather than simply supplying the product, Victorian Sliders® works proactively with installers like Ace Windows to enhance and refine their ECOSlide® system. This ensures that customers, and property owners receive a product that meets and exceeds their needs and expectations.

“If we feel something can be improved, those conversations happen. Equally, when Victorian Sliders® are developing something new, we have been involved in that process in the past… having that open dialogue makes such a big difference.”

Continuous Product Development

Over the past decade and a half, Ace Windows have seen first-hand the development and continual investment in ECOSlide®. While maintaining the classic heritage appearance, ECOSlide® sash windows have significantly improved in performance, quality and style.

“If you looked at the product eight to ten years ago it’s not the same, it still looks very much the same but there has been continuous development, and I think that enhances everything.”

The evolution of ECOSlide® has been a key factor in enabling installers such as Ace Windows to meet the changing demands of property owners, particularly in areas where both the aesthetic appeal and performance are crucial.

Meeting the Needs of Traditional Properties

In Glasgow, where Ace Windows are based, many properties were originally fitted with sash and case windows. Property owners in the area have consistently expressed their desire to preserve the features and overall character of their property.

Speaking about ECOSlide® sash windows, Steven said:

“There’s a big market for sash windows in Glasgow, with ECOSlide® they give you the ability to go back to a more traditional looking window without compromising on style and maintenance…you’re giving them A+ rated windows, toughened safety glass, all the security enhancements without the need to continually maintain it.”

With ECOSlide® sash windows, property owners can now achieve:

  • Bespoke design

  • Authentic heritage detailing

  • A+ rated performance

  • Improved security features

  • Smooth and reliable operation

  • Reduced maintenance requirements

Changing Perceptions of PVC-U

It’s well-known that PVC-U hasn’t always had a positive image, but Ace Windows have witnessed a shift in perspective from their clients over the years.

“Years ago, PVC-U windows didn’t have the same visual appeal, they looked very plasticky and weren’t desirable to have in terms of appearance. Now, you can walk by them, and you cannot tell the difference between a timber or PVC-U window, plus you’re getting all the enhancements that come with modern PVC alternatives.”

Advancements in design, technology and manufacturing processes mean that today’s PVC-U windows can authentically replicate traditional sash windows. With details including deep bottom rails, sash horns and variety of colour and foil options, homeowners can achieve that traditional look without financial and maintenance implications.

Not only does ECOSlide® offer a range of configurations, features and finishes, but Victorian Sliders®’ investment in the recycling and manufacturing process means that profiles are now made with increased levels of recycled material, making them a sustainable option as well.

“Some people still have the mindset that PVC is going to look inferior, but when they actually see it, it completely changes their opinion. ECOSlide® products offer a variety of colours, styles and foiling… there is a window for everybody.”

It is this growing awareness around the benefits of modern PVC-U windows has contributed to a rise in demand.

“There is a window for everybody”

Alongside the aesthetic improvements and options, modern PVC-U sash windows also offer more practical and functional benefits.

Compared to traditional timber, ECOSlide® products are a more financially viable option that has:

  • Tilt and Slide Functionality - Effortless operation and easy cleaning with both sashes opening as standard

  • Thermal Efficiency (U-Values as low as 1.2W/m²K) - Helps retain heat and improve overall comfort.

  • Enhanced Security Options – Including Secure by Design, PAS 24 and Laminated options for added peace of mind.

  • Long-Term Durability And Performance – In-house tested systems backed by a 10-year warranty.

  • Sustainable Manufacturing – 100% of Victorian Sliders®’ post industrial waste is recycled.

  • Low Maintenance Design – No need for sanding or repainting over time.

“I wouldn’t discount timber windows, especially if that is what someone wants to do, but I can sit and swear by the product that Victorian Sliders® provide, and the installation that we provide with it.”

The Importance of Installation

While the quality of the windows plays a crucial role, the installation process is just as important in achieving the desired result. For vertically sliding sash windows in particular, precise installation is essential. The window must be level to ensure smooth operation and long-term performance.

Achieving this not only requires attention to detail, but also experienced and reliable fitters. With over 16 years of working with the ECOSlide® system, Ace Windows have developed the expertise needed to consistently deliver high-quality installations, supported by shared knowledge across their team.

“The enhancements are there as well as the installation process. We put them together and it entwines very well… the work the fitters do is incredible. The quality of the window is matched by the quality of installation.”

The attention to detail ensures that every project meets both visual expectations and long-term performance standards.

“I would always put my boys up against anything in terms of the fitting standards, but in that regard, there has to be a good product as well because customers are not happy if you’re not fitting something that meets their requirements, their needs, their desires. They use them every day, we don’t, it’s the customer’s house and they have to be happy.”

Looking Ahead

After more than 15 years of working together, Ace Windows hopes to see the relationship with Victorian Sliders® continue.

“Productive, longstanding and extremely, extremely positive, that’s how I would describe our relationship with Victorian Sliders®. We have an open dialogue, there is always people to contact, and that relationship is something that has evolved and is one we hope to continue for another fifteen to twenty years.”

As both companies continue to develop their offerings, the focus remains the same: delivering high-quality solutions that meet the needs of modern property owners without compromise.

Commenting on the long-held relationship, Kevin Smith, Regional Sales Manager at Victorian Sliders® said: “Ace Windows have been a valued customer since 2010, and their commitment to quality installation and customer satisfaction reflects exactly what we aim to achieve with our ECOSlide® system. Relationships like this are built on trust, collaboration and a shared focus on delivering the best possible product for property owners. We’re proud to have worked alongside Ace Windows for over 16 years and look forward to continuing that partnership in the years ahead.”
